First off I have to say that I am sorry I missed the last few journal entries. As the title for today’s post implies, I haven’t been slacking! In fact I have found that being busy with essentials may be the one thing better than a journal for keeping me honest.

This, of course, will be different for everyone. If you are someone who overloads themselves with essential things to do and then grabs a bowl of ice cream to cope, this post may not be for you.

However, before you close this window, I would like you to briefly consider you essentials. At my toastmasters meeting tonight, one lady did a speech on time management. She made the point that anything that moves you towards your goals is important.

This is a fantastic way of judging what will dominate your to-do list. If you have made a commitment, that is important. But, before you make commitments, you should always ask how it will move you towards your goals.

Today I hit day 40. It was essential that I had made progress, especially on my goal of being social, but also on my book.

This is not to say I don’t consider this journal to be essential, but it doesn’t move me towards these two main goals.

I am proud to say, that in the area of the main goals I made significant progress. My ebook A 40 Day Dopamine Fast, is officially for sale on Amazon, and this evening I did my first toastmasters speech.

It was a race to get both of these things in before I hit day 40, but another essential change to my life is becoming a man of my word. I told myself I needed to get these things done and I wasn’t about to let me down.

What I learned from this experience is that being busy with essentials is an amazing way to distract you from your cravings.

Want to lose weight? Want to quit drinking? Just get yourself so busy that you don’t have time to waste. It sounds too simple, but it works!

There is no better feeling than being two hours late to eating lunch becasue you are so absorbed in what you are doing!
